Description: The BWA home stream. Lots of dynamic play spots and wide enough to stay free of strainers, the Elkhorn has a large watershed allowing it to keep its water longer than other area streams.
Difficulty: Class II with Class III hydraulics at certain levels
Put-In: Elkhorn Campground on US 460 at Forks of Elkhorn near Frankfort, KY. Display your BWA parking pass or pay campground attendant.
Take-Out: Elkorn Acres on KY 1900 south of Knight's Bridge.
Places to Stay: Usually run as a day trip, but the Elkhorn Campground is right at the put-in.

Level (cfs) Characteristics < 250 Portages over shallow areas required. 250-600 Bony in spots. Good novice level. 600-3000 Prime water levels. 3000-6500 Dangerous portage around dam. 6500+ Extremely dangerous if not impossible portage around dam. Use alternate put-in at Railroad.
